It did not take us long to traverse Quebec City and cross the St. Lawrence River again. From there we headed south and west and spent the rest of the week exploring the Eastern Townships. Following The Great Trail, we passed through Victoriaville (where Bobby Orr had his hockey sticks made); through the now dying town of Asbestos (the name says it all); through Sherbrooke, “the primary economic, political, cultural and institutional centre of the Townships”; and ended the week in the mature forests of Parc National du Mont-Orford. The trail has been great – much of it paved surface.
We dined often on fresh cheddar and poutine at les fromageries, and checked out many of the wineries along the way.. It’s a good thing this is a virtual trek or we might all start gaining weight!
We should be passing through Montreal this week. Perhaps we’ll get to watch the Habs play New York in Game 5! (Oh look! Is that Frank Mahovlich in number 27?)
